Reishi Mushroom

Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum)

Of all the mushrooms, reishi is attributed the most medicinal properties and is ranked among the top traditional medicines. In some Far Eastern countries it is called the ‘mushroom of immortality’ and in the Japanese book Shinnoh Honsokyo it is referred to as an ‘excellent cure’. Besides, reishi mushroom is considered to be the ‘plant of God’.

Reishi mushroom was scientifically proven to slow down the growth of tumours, bacteria and viruses, strengthen the immune system, have anti-inflammatory activity, regulate blood sugar and pressure, lower the level of harmful cholesterol, relieve stress and have beneficial effect on the liver and kidneys.

It is consumed as a tea brewed from the ground fruiting bodies or as medicinal compounds purified from the mushroom in the form of tinctures and capsules.

There are several colour varieties of reishi mushroom, from yellow and orange to bright red and brown shades. Because of its glazed appearance, the mushroom has other names, such as Glossy Ganoderma or Shiny Polyporus.
